KMSSS | PSSS | All

Taking humanity in his/her integrity, the Diocese does not fail to look into the social needs of the people. It carries out the social activities through two societies - KMSSS (Kumbakonam Multipurpose Social Service Society) and PSSS (Perambalur Social Service Society). The social works are carried out irrespective of caste and creed having the objective to help the people help themselves. Saving schemes, motivation and awareness programmes etc are some of their thrusts.

KMSSS (Kumbakonam Multipurpose Social Service Society) An Over View of KMSSS

The Kumbakonam Multipurpose Social Service Society is a Diocesan Organisation, registered in 1973 with the following objectives.
To perform works of charity for those in need, irrespective of caste, race, community or creed.
To engage in Social service activities aimed at improving the living conditions and general welfare of the poor, particularly farmers, as well as poor and indigent persons.

Services at the start of the Organization

Catholic Relief Service - Food for Work, Mother and Child Health Education, Nursery, School Children and Children feeding, Individual health care services were rendered.
Eco friendly programs of land levelling, deepening of wells, tanks, ponds, lakes and bund construction for irrigation canals, approach roads were formed.
Economic development programs for massive relief operations for the victims of 1977-78 cyclone.
Indian Overseas Bank and KMSSS "Joint Venture" People participatory development programs for marginal farmers, land less labourers. Income generation activities such as small business, milch animals Goat rearing and joint farming are promoted.

CEBEMO Housing Scheme Loan
Low cost Housing Scheme loan for the poor . From 1986 so far 184 houses were constructed.

Awareness and Education Scheme from 1980
People centred participatory approach was emphasised in Awareness and Education Project. Working as a group for resolving community problem and other needs was widely popularised through this project and continued till 1999.

Women Development Education Programme
With the assistance of "Andheri-Hilfe, e.V." Women and Children Development Project was initiated in major parts of Diocese area and recently extended to Musiri and Thuraiyur Zones.

Ceylon Repatriate Scheme
Assistance for education, Medical aid, Loan facilities and Skill training were provided to eligible persons.

Bishop's Small Savings Scheme
A novel scheme for Small Savings purpose expounded by our Bishop Most Rev.P. Remigius, D.D. has been implemented from 1992. Through this scheme more than 400 persons got a loan of Rs.11,30,700/-.

Education Scholarship for Christan Students
Under this scheme about 3491 students of +1, +2 have benefited a sum of Rs.7,14,900/- and 3722 College and Technical course students have received Rs.15,21,300/- and 1214 Scheduled Caste and Scheduled tribe students have received Rs.5,24,300/-.

Training Centre
Women Development Training Centre, Pullambady (1988):
Every year about 60 young girls (18 to 25 age unmarried) are trained in two batches with five months duration for each batch. Home management, Social life, Leadership equality, group work, Tailoring, Crafts, Herbal medicine and cultural aspects are covered as course content.

Multi-Skill Training Centre, Vengankudy (1993):
Training on Tailoring, Home Appliance repairing, T.V. and Radio mechanism, and Computer application training are given for 5 months duration taking alternatively girls and boys (school drop-outs, completed). So far 454 youth are trained in 13 batches.

Christian Harijan Dhobies Free Housing

Loans to the tune of Rs.92,25,000/- were sanctioned to 457 economically and social backward Harijan Christian Dhobies to construct houses.

 I. Animation Project for Federation Building at village, Union, Taluk and District levels.
  II. Promotion of Credit Union in Udayarpalayam and Ariyalur Taluks.
  III. Integrated Children Development through Women's Participation in the Diocese.
  IV. Women Development Programme in the Diocese of Kumbakonam.

Relief assistance for Cyclone, Flood, Drought and Fire victims. Christian Harijan Dhobies free Housing Scheme Publication of Field experiences and innovative ideas through a magazine - "Kodai Edi".

PSSS (Perambalur Social Service Society-Perambalur)

The aims and objectives of the Perambalur Social Service Society are:

1.To perform works of charity for those in need Irrespective of race, caste, community or creed.
2.To carry our Social Service Activities aimed are Improving the living conditions and general welfare of the poor, particularly unemployed farmers and other Working people, as well as poor and indigent persons Of whatever occupations irrespective of race, caste, Community or creed.
3.To establish a Social Order of Justice, Peace and Love Among people.
4.To create a state of total integral development of the Weaker and disadvantaged people.
5.To undertake welfare activities for the growth and Development of children and women.
6.To organize people and develop local leadership to Enhance their social, economical, ecological and Cultural status with their participation.
7.To initiate and promote formal and non-formal Education programmes to nonscientist their rights and Responsibilities for development.
8.To co-operate and collaborate with the existing Financial institutions for promotion of economic Development.
9.To establish institutional base for the people's Economic growth through sagas, savings, credit Unions and cooperatives.
10.To organize awareness and animation activities for People's participation.
11.To enlist join efforts with voluntary and Government Agencies in and abroad for relief, welfare and Developmental activities.

13.To engage in income generation activities for Promoting the tarter people living condition for Furtherance of the objectives of the society.
14.To carryout programmes for welfare and rehabilitation Of the socially, physically and mentally retarded People, orphans and widows.v 15.To support and encourage all charitable and human Enterprises in the field of agriculture, education and Community health.
16.To encourage, promote, acquire, develop and distribute Resources of all kinds.
17.To undertake skill development vocational courses for Seem illiterate, school drop-out and unemployed Youths.
18.To promote the object of the society shall Establish, conduct, manage, promote, equip, Administer, closedown or dispose off, social welfare Centres, training centres, technical schools, Dispensaries, hospitals, clubs, wore guilds social Institutes, recreational centres, orphanages, reading Rooms, study circles, nurseries, schools and other Related institutions.
