The Cathaloic Mission was started at Kulumur in the rear 1940 by late Fr.Ignatius and Fr.A.Rayappan,during the tenure of late Mgr.Peter Francis the then Bishop f Kumbakonam ,undeterred by the utter lack of even basic conveniences and overwhelmed by zeal for soule,the undaunted missionaries braved all the barries to spared the word of god at kulumur and its vicinities.The grace of god was not wanting.The word of god apread so steady among those who were receptives that in subsequent years some more mission stations were established to facilitateemission work.

The Missionmaries of yester years felt the vital need education as a sine qua tool to civilise the rank and whose life style was at very low ebb for want of education.A primary school emerged  among the most reluctant students who had to be wooed to attend classes .the sacrifice the missionaries made,over the years,had not been vain.The primary school  was upgraded into middle school in the year 1954.In the year 1995 it was made Hr.Sec School.Education had achieved a phenomical social in and around kulumur.The life of the people in general,hitherto plunged in lowest economic is poised to see the dawn of the day.

The Mission has not come to end.It is to be carried out vigonously for all the days to come through the instrumentally of education and other social works.
