Brief History
In the year 1868 mathur parish was eanonically erected as a parish by Most.Rev.Fr.Lacenan.It was under Kumbakonam parish as a substation till 1867.It was bifurcated from Kumbkonam parish in the year 1868.It was situated 11 km away from kumbakonam.Till 1883,Parish priest were staying at kumbakonam and looking after mathur.The lands which are closer to the parish which were brought by Rev.Fr.Fathers Lazar,Clement,Thambiar Alosius and Malbrate.and there was a community clash between vannlers and scheduked easte people.So the vannlers community people bult church separatly for themselves.
Fr.Malbrate brought lands for scheduled people and fought against the local land lards for their misbehaviours towards the scheduled easte people.During his period only many hindus had accepted and embeaced the catholic faith. Chaples were built at Aandalur and Vanduvanchery.Many subsrations like Natchuaikoil,Nalladai,Kovanur and Kumaramangalam were also attached to the parish mathur.The total catholic population of this parish is arround 2722.The annual parish feast falls every year during the week of May.
